O caso Cabo Mondego. O dever da Arquitetura sobre o território abandonado

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem como objectivo lançar a discussão sobre o património mineiro português e suas estruturas de apoio, através do estudo específico do Couto Mineiro e Industrial do Cabo Mondego, na Figueira da Foz. O intervalo cronológico considerado começa em 1750 e termina em 2016 permitindo, pela primeira vez, sistematizar o desenvolvimento do edificado mineiro e industrial aí existente, com base num enquadramento histórico-social. No decorrer do processo de encerramento da estrutura industrial em questão, surgiu a vontade de condensar os valores tangíveis e intangíveis do lugar, a fim de potenciar uma reflexão mais criteriosa sobre o futuro deste espaço, fundamentada no pleno entendimento do seu passado. Neste sentido, a par da análise crítica da história do Couto Mineiro, tiveram lugar várias reuniões com a Câmara Municipal da Figueira da Foz, onde foi possível argumentar pela defesa daquele património ímpar. Espera-se que, pela consolidação dos valores que esta dissertação condensa, se consiga contribuir para uma solução respeitante dos mesmo, imprimindo a preservação da memória deste sítio nas futuras propostas. .

The aim of this study is the discussion about the Portuguese Mining Heritage and its support structures. For that, the mining and industrial structure of Cabo Mondego (Figueira da Foz) was exhaustively studied. Since the chronological range of this work started in 1750 and it ended in the present year, it was possible to systematize, for the first time, the development of the mining and industrial buildings, considering the historical and social framework. Due to the closure of the present industrial structure, it was necessary to condensate all the tangible and intangible values of the place to have a better understanding of its past and consequently enrich the discussion about the future of this mining/industrial site. Beyond the critical analysis of Cabo Mondego’s history, several meetings with the Câmara Municipal da Figueira da Foz were held to discuss the future of Cabo Mondego, ensuring the defense of its edified heritage.It is expected that the consolidation of the values that this thesis proposes, will contribute to a solution that will respect those same values, suggesting the preservation of memory and identity in future interventions. .
